ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in this book. The book discusses a series of ways to help improve health outcomes, lower costs of care, and hence reduce the future burden on taxpayers. A series of these center around the ways we confront chronic conditions. The book presents pathways to improving health care outcomes and costs by enhancing the shift to electronic health records, and finding stronger ways to combat fraud and abuse in health care. Both of these arenas need the leadership of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), but require the participation of all health insurers and providers. The book provides a discussion on useful and powerful tools already in widespread use in various parts of the financial services sectors that can serve as templates and guideposts in this important endeavor.
