ABSTRACT

Religion is a tricky word. Surely, Religious Naturalists mean religion in its best sense. That is, a tradition, body of knowledge, community, and practices—those things that promote people's current understanding of the world and their place in it, as well as their values, wisdom, meaning, and inspiration. Many Religious Naturalists are inspired and moved by things like the eloquent words of Carl Sagan. He was a true treasure to humanity in many ways. Spiritual practice is a process of spiritual transformation. That is, the transformation of people's essential nature. Spiritual and Religious Naturalists today are facing a still-new world of access to the histories and teachings of cultures everywhere throughout history. Many people faced with considering their practice will mention things like how they already enjoy taking a walk on the beach or listening to music. Remember that not all practices take place in sectioned off time periods and places.
