Protection and promotion of religious freedom in the external relations of the European Union

The promotion and protection of the right to freedom of religion has recently become one of the goals of the external action of the European Union. The guidelines approved in 2013 by the Council of the European Union set out basic principles for the action of the EU in this field. They also detail instruments for European action. This chapter analyzes them in detail.
