ABSTRACT

This chapter offers Rose Baca's encouragement and wisdom about the path to being a reporter, a broadcaster, an editor or a media professional. In many ways journalism completely changed Baca's personality. How she views the world and deals with people from day to day. In the beginning, Baca just wanted to make photographs. She chose journalism because there was such a purpose to it. She looked at images in the newspaper and magazines and was overcome by the emotion they showed. She wanted to be a part of that work. Maybe she was naive in the beginning, because she had never given much thought to how affected she would be by the people. There is a part of her that is able to block out emotion and see the world through only her viewfinder, but there will always be a bigger part of her that will be overcome at the end of the day.
