ABSTRACT

This chapter offers Lauren Galippo's encouragement and wisdom about the path to being a reporter, a broadcaster, an editor or a media professional. Galippo graduated from Texas Christian University on a Saturday in May of 2013, moved to New York City on Sunday, and started working at CBS News that same week. The first piece she produced aired on national television just six months into the job as broadcast associate at 'CBS This Morning'. She had read about the Vine app in Time magazine, specifically that large corporations were using the six-second videos to advertise to consumers. She had some experience pitching ideas as she had to practice that in journalism school. She knew she had to present the entire picture with details, confidence and diligence. She ended up writing out the pitch at least 20 times and then practiced verbally pitching it in the mirror.
