ABSTRACT

This chapter offers Bob Schieffer's encouragement and wisdom about the path to being a reporter, a broadcaster, an editor or a media professional. Schieffer wanted to be a reporter from the time he saw his name for the first time in boldface type set atop a story he wrote for his junior high school newspaper. He got his first job in journalism at a little radio station in Fort Worth the summer of his sophomore year at TCU and he have had a paid job in journalism ever since including the three years he spent in the Air Force when he was the editor of a base newspaper and several military publications. There are many ways to have a good life but Schieffer cannot think of anything he could have done that would have been more satisfying, and for him anyway, more fun.
