ABSTRACT

The Project Management Institute identifies 10 knowledge areas that each contain processes that are to be accomplished for effective and successful project management. Some lead to specific project objectives. Others provide methods to achieve the objectives. Integration management is used in project management to coordinate activities that occur across all of the process groups and knowledge areas. Proper scope definition and management do not guarantee a successful project, but studies show that not determining these appropriately in the early stages is a main reason for project failure. The project scope should include all the required work, and only the required work, to complete the project. Completing a project on time is one of the main measures of success, but also one of the biggest challenges. Information technology (IT) projects can be expensive and even escalate way over budget. Quality planning defines how quality will be measured.
