Transformative Note Taking
Note taking is one of the most tried-and-true facets of teaching and learning, but it needs a major jolt. For decades, elementary, middle, and high school teachers have asked students to take out their notebooks and dutifully write down what is written on the board. I still recall how my high school social studies teacher wrote panel after panel on the chalkboard. We feverishly copied the impeccably structured outlines that Mrs. Bart wrote at an extraordinarily high rate of speed, hoping to finish the task before she erased the board and started again.
