ABSTRACT

Spoiler alert! In Jason Reitman’s 2014 film Men, Women, and Children, adults and teenagers grapple with the challenges of relationships and intimacy in the digital age. As one would expect, the kids in the film snap, text, and post photos of everything in their lives, while parents do their best to keep them safe in both their online and offline environments. Patricia, a high-strung mother played by the actress Jennifer Garner, monitors every moment of her high school daughter’s online world, to the point of obsession. Meanwhile, her quiet bookworm daughter Brandy

(played by Kaitlyn Dever) bonds with a tall boy named Tim over their shared disdain of the traditional high school cliques. Tim, played by the current teenage heartthrob Ansel Elgort, is a former star football player who quit the team after his parents went through a difficult divorce. Tim and Brandy are arguably the most sympathetic and well-adjusted characters in the movie.
