ABSTRACT

Adam got up early Wednesday morning and was out on the porch in time to see the sunlight boil up from the hills to the east and hear the birds chattering their wakeup calls in the trees near the back of the property. Duncan and Cole had scraped off enough topsoil to expose a table-sized expanse of the buried rock; to Adam, it made the subterranean behemoth feel even larger.
