ABSTRACT

There are many forms and types of auditoria space, which can vary in shape, volume, size and function. Typically, different types of performance or presentation are housed in particular forms of auditoria space. Audience engagement, cohesion and intimacy are the central tenets of good auditoria design. In auditoria spaces where there is a greater degree of encirclement of the platform or stage by the audience, more people can be accommodated within the bounds of aural and visual limitations. A key consideration in making auditoria spaces adaptable is the length of time and manpower required to effect the change against the capital cost and flexibility of the mechanisms proposed. Adaptable auditoria spaces might be used for single performance types, such as drama, which can take the form of a courtyard theatre or even flat floor space. Concert halls provide an auditoria space specifically for practice and performance of classical music including symphonic concerts, chamber music and recitals.
