ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how the IMPACT Paradigm applies to a range of different types of communication interactions. It describes nine communication situations. These communication interactions include: a workplace conversation; a corporate pitch; a presentation; a meeting; a project update; a negotiation; networking; a job interview; and a keynote speech. The chapter presents the two situations that highlights the principle of intending and illustrates other IMPACT Paradigm principles at work. One is a workplace conversation between an employee and her superior in a financial services firm and the other is a pitch for funds by a team leader in a luxury goods company. In both situations, the communicators started with the end in mind and achieved results that exceeded their desired outcomes. To ensure his own full engagement and the full engagement of the entire audience during the speech, Patrick has a set of guidelines that he follows on the day of the keynote.
