ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses explicitly on a number of factors pertinent to interviewers who are striving to offer a responsible, ethical and competent service to their respective clients. It seeks to introduce some thoughts on a number of these key contextual issues by presenting material around those components which comprise the main aspects of professional codes of practice. The chapter presents some thoughts on a range of professional issues which have an important bearing on the practice of interviewing as employed by a range of personal services. There are a number of professions in existence today where interviewing constitutes one of their major methods of intervention. Of all aspects of professional practice enshrined in the various ethical codes those relating to the place of the interviewee are conspicuously included. All professional practitioners operate from a sound theoretical foundation derived from evidence available from relevant cognate discipline areas.
