ABSTRACT

Conjectural realism has two main theoretical components: one epistemological, another metaphysical. One of the epistemological features of conjectural realism is that for each issue at stake, it assumes complete openness concerning alternative models. Different issues arise concerning the polemics surrounding theories of communication, among which are the various uses of both the expressions ‘theory’ and ‘communication.’ Models of communication are sometimes classified in terms of their emphasis on either transmission of information or on a wider form of social interaction. Human affairs, including social affairs and institutions, are, of course, part of reality. There are classic topics in the humanities which, until recently, have been deemed unattainable from an empirical conjectural approach, such as experience or meaning/sense. Theoretical reflection is a human practice and, as such, it has a moral/political import. One can have an empirical sociological perspective on the moral, political, economic and prescriptive aspects of human activities.
