ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how to understand, study, and think about the Canadian world wide web from a web archiving perspective. It does so in three major ways. First, the authors present the state of the Canadian web, including a history of the. ca. domain and the current state of web archiving in Canada. Second, they explore the institution-focussed collecting that is happening across the country, with particular emphasis on questions of seed selection. Finally, they argue that this ad hoc approach needs to be replaced with a more comprehensive one in order to capture Canadian culture, politics, and life online.
