ABSTRACT

Statistical Guide: See Exercise 16 to review the correlation coefficient (r). While r can tell us how well one variable predicts another, a multiple correlation coefficient (R) tells us how well two or more variables in combination can predict one other variable. For all practical purposes, R is interpreted in the same way as r, keeping in mind that R is for the relationship between the combination of two or more predictors and another variable. 2

Background Notes: The Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale was administered to 41 college men taking introductory psychology. The Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory was also administered. Two of the traits it measures are obsessive-compulsive washing (such as repeatedly washing hands that are clean) and obsessive-compulsive checking (such as repeatedly checking something that has already been thoroughly checked).
