The Role of Metaphor in the Development of an Instructional Writing Environment

In this chapter, I discuss the development, current status, and plans for Writing@CSU

(https://writing.colostate.edu), an educational Web site that supports the learning and

teaching of writing (see Figure 1). Visitors to the site can view advice on writing,

speaking, and conducting research; read guides about effective instructional strategies;

and practice various composing processes. Visitors who create a free account in the

site’s instructional writing environment, the Writing Studio, can also access drafting

and project management tools, source management tools, a course management system,

and publication and collaboration tools that allow them to create ePortfolios, blogs,

and wikis.
