ABSTRACT

The conclusion offers geostrategic advice for both China and the US in the light of the historical examples analysed in previous chapters. It advises the Chinese to imitate the policies of the mid-Yuan dynasty emperors and to not follow in the footsteps of the Sassanian Persians, who were deprived of their empire largely due to the erroneous geostrategic decisions of their kings. The chapter furthermore advises the US to learn from the Eastern Roman experience, to retrench in areas of non-vital interest and concentrate on the principal geopolitical competitor, China.
