ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the importance of 3D models for maintenance, both for planned interventions as well as nonplanned ones.

In fact, if the technician can access 3D physical asset schemas both online or offline, manipulate them, and simulate replacements, among other types of operations, the quality of interventions will hugely increase.

This type of data ought to be inserted in a computerized maintenance management system in order to manipulate, in an integrated way, the technical data that allow management of the maintenance of physical assets.

Additionally, this kind of approach may also be relevant for some other situations, as is the case of renewal, in interventions with high levels of difficulty, and to aid markerless augmented reality.
