ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with maintenance standards, both transverse and vertical.
Nowadays, standards cover a wide spectrum of physical asset maintenance, from technical to organizational and management areas.
This chapter presents a wide view of the maintenance standards with emphasis on the ones focused on organization and management. Among these standards, some national ones with worldwide scope are presented because of their relevance to aiding the terms of reference applied to both the acquisition of physical assets and outsourcing of maintenance services.
Finally, this chapter presents some ways to find the specific standards that each user needs according to the specificity of the physical assets.
