ABSTRACT

Work, with all that the word implies, tends to be a word that rarely provokes deep thought, although it is given a total of four columns in the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, considerably more academic space than the thoughts, feelings and resultant actions that we usually attach to it. Yet these thoughts themselves run the whole gamut of human emotions, from anger and pain to pleasure and joy, or a mix of these and a multitude of other emotions. As our world of work is now changing at such a rapid pace, and within that world the information professions are changing equally rapidly, it seems an appropriate time to begin to examine the world of work, and the emotions, actions and decisions involved in this world. These issues are evoked by and acted out at work.
