We “two poor strangers” (that is, Cabral and Fróis) are “in the midst of the herd of wolves: the Queen Mother, her brothers who were principal ministers at court, Buddhist priests and pagan relatives of Kirishitans,” wrote Fróis during the Simão incident in 1577. Like Elijah, Fróis expressed his fear of Jezebel.1
