ABSTRACT

In my book Wisdom in Proverbs 1 ) I have tried to analyse the material in Prov. i-ix and have drawn some conclusions about its literary history. In the present article I give some more detailed arguments regarding the analysis of some passages which could only be discussed very briefly in the book. The first two parts are concerned with the reconstruction of two of the original ten educational ‘discourses’ which I believe to have been the original stratum of these chapters 2 ); the third with the literary problems of a short passage in the long speech by Wisdom in ch. viii.
