Stages

The Danish noun Stadium or Stadie derives from the Greek word στάδιον, which refers to an ancient Greek racetrack that covered a distance of 600 Greek feet.1 A stage thus has come to mean the covering of this length of track one time. In Danish it means a part of a larger course of development.2 It is often used in the sense of a surpassed or already completed stage.
