ABSTRACT

Nebuchadnezzar II (630-562 bc) is the name of the Babylonian high king who built a huge empire in the ancient Middle East. Cities that dared to oppose him were conquered, among them Jerusalem, first in 597 bc and then again for a second and last time in 587 bc. According to the Old Testament, following this second conquest Nebuchadnezzar abducted Jerusalem’s ruling class and transported them to Babylon.
