ABSTRACT

Rewritings of biblical narratives are often found in both the pseudonymous and the edifying writings of Kierkegaard. This article explores how and why Kierkegaard rewrites biblical narratives.1 In order to understand the hermeneutical implications of the rewritings, we need to consider his rhetorical strategy of rewriting in relation to his hermeneutical and ethical focus on the appropriation and actualization of the text in the reader’s concrete existence.
