ABSTRACT

The problems of instability, whose cause lies in the characteristic curves of hydraulic machines, are dealt with in this section. The characteristic curves are obtained from performance and dynamic tests. The instability originating from the static or dynamic characteristic curves of the machine, differs from the vibration problems due to the internal excitations. The latter type of problems such as those produced by rotating and stationary vane interaction, Karman vortex shedding, etc. are dealt with in Chapter 4.
