ABSTRACT

So far we have considered the planning process and various theories of traffic movement. These provide basic foundations for the consideration of traffic studies and for impact analysis based on data collected in those studies. Our attention now turns to the means for the collection and examination of traffic data to apply with the theoretical models as part of the planning process. Data collection is expensive, time consuming and not always straightforward, so great care must be exercised in its planning, design and conduct. This chapter considers the necessary steps in survey planning and management.
