ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information on the quantities, costs, quality and sources of drugs consumed in the some European cities by the two drug user samples - socially integrated drug consumers and socially marginalized ones. The two groups are considered sequentially due to major differences found in drug use patterns, social characteristics of users and significant differences in drug use quantities and expenditure on drugs. The chapter presents information collected from the socially integrated drug users and the socially marginalized users. It discusses daily and monthly consumption is reported for the most prevalent drug categories (heroin, cocaine, including crack, ecstasy, amphetamines, cannabis herb and cannabis resin). The chapter explains perceived quality of the drugs used. It provides information on drug sources - where users said they obtained their drugs. The chapter highlights the differences in drug use quantities in the different cities have many drug-specific and non drug-specific causes.
