ABSTRACT

Today, there are about 3.3 million residents of Turkish origin in the European Union, with approximately 2.5 million of them living in Germany. Conversely, an estimated 100,000 citizens of EU origin living in Turkey, among them some 60,000 German citizens. These figures explain why research has hitherto largely focused on Turkish migrants in Germany; in fact, research on the life-worlds of German migrants in Turkey is very scarce. Yet, the last two decades have observed a marked increase in migration flows from Germany to Turkey.
