ABSTRACT

A resource person should understand a little about the Assessment Centre process to allow them to perform their role effectively. As a minimum, a resource person should know what a simulation exercise is and what part they are expected to play in the exercise. In a simulation exercise, a resource person is someone who has information which the candidate requires in order to complete the exercise successfully. The resource person does not normally play a particular 'role' – they are not a 'roleplayer', but a 'resource' or a provider of information. To carry out their role effectively it is crucial that a resource person understands the exercise they are taking part in and knows the content extremely well. A resource person should be totally objective when dealing with candidates, they should not allow any personal feelings or previous knowledge of candidates to influence their own performance.
