ABSTRACT

In the last chapter we spent some considerable time reviewing what we meant by learning. We needed to labour the point because, after all, as training designers we are setting out to enable others to learn. The next stage in the process is to identify what it is we want people to know and do at the end of our course. Nor should we forget the requirement to include some insight into how to do the job in an expert fashion. In this chapter we start the process of training design proper. We will be covering 3 main areas in terms of analysing the job of work: what to look for, how to find it and, finally, how to describe it. At the end of this chapter you will have:

• Considered the component parts of job performance. • Considered a variety of techniques for identifying the parts of job

performance. • Considered a range of ways of describing your course syllabus.
