Theatre and Culture in Early Modern England 1650-1737: From Leviathan to Licensing Act brings together research on the period that is coming to be known as the ‘long Restoration’: 1650-1737.1 This volume begins with Hobbes’s Leviathan (1651) and ends with the 1737 Licensing Act because each was, in its own way, to have a major impact on literature.
