ABSTRACT
In this chapter I will be concentrating on two specific rhetorical devices, metaphor and simile.1 Metaphor is both the more difficult area theoretically, and in practice the less interesting figure in relation to the texts I am considering, and so I will discuss it fairlybriefly before moving on to a more extended treatment of simile.2
