ABSTRACT
In 1848 Dickens finished a new Christmas story, reminiscent of A Christmas Carol but more abstract and schematic. A virtual allegory of thoughts about the importance of memory, The Haunted Man develops ideas intrinsic to the form and content of David Copperfield, which was begun at Devonshire Terrace, London in February 1849 and finished at Broadstairs in October 1850.
