ABSTRACT

A n im p o rtan t p a rt of m y project has been to exam ine F anon 's cul­ tu ra l politics in a historical context. In m y foregoing rem arks on the veil and the rad io , I em phasized the larger sociopolitical contexts an d dynam ics of F anon 's conception of national consciousness an d nation-build ing . Ffere, still w ith in the context of national consciousness, I argue tha t F anon 's cu ltural politics can lead to an u n d ers tan d in g of his hum anism . Further, if his hu m an ism is p red i­ cated on anticolonial action, w hy then shou ld it take a national form ? We shall have to first discuss F anon 's conception of national liberation.
