j. R. F O R S T E R ' S RESOLUTION JOURNAL had all the various hues from yellow to orange, red & dark purple dying away into a reddish grey & into dark, where night had spread its veil over. The Stars shining through in the lucid spots. In short it afforded a new & quite singular view. When the smoke came out a fresh, the clouds of it were illuminated from the bottom of the Crater, Sc formed a head divided into various parts, more so than smoke from common fire does. All the Objects were gilt or tinged with yellow, orange, red or purple on the edges exposed to this light. All this caused a peculiar effect, but the hill itself & the mouth of the Volcano, were concealed a good way beyond the first neighbouring hills.
