ABSTRACT

In 1521/23 after Sweden's breach of the Nordic Union, the Danish monarchy reigned from then onwards over Denmark, Norway, Iceland, the now Swedish provinces of Scania, Halland, Blekinge and the island of Gotland . The Duchy of Schleswig, united to that of Holstein, was a Danish fief, overseen by the Archbishop of Lund. The Reformation quickly affected Schleswig, a vital area for Denmark in many respects, though these inroads had liule effect on printed books. Given that Norway played no role in the Reformation and that Iceland remained more or less Catholic umil 1550, the eemres of the movement were in Denmark and Seania.
