ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that inequality between men and women, poor and rich means that unsafe sex is maintained despite growing knowledge about the dangers of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). It explores grotesque international inequality between countries—an inequality that is maintained by debt. The book discusses that it is the nimble political leadership and co-option of many groups that have enabled this country to both maintain its growth and political stability. It describes of the AIDS pandemic in Botswana both underline the long wave nature of the disease and the fact that it is still evolving and the major impact will be felt in the future. The book looks at HIV/AIDS and South Africa's national security. AIDS as a security issue has been picked up by a number of organisations from the CIA to the United Nations Security Council.
