ABSTRACT

The institutional arrangements concerning property transactions within the United Kingdom are significantly different to those found in the remainder of Europe and for most parts of the world. One of the over-riding factors concerning property transactions in the United Kingdom is the institutional stability of the generic procedures. During the period of the industrial revolution, one of the greatest periods of social change took place throughout Great Britain. Land in Scotland comprises the air, sea, and inland water within the territorial limits. The system of land registration used in Northern Ireland is loosely based upon the Torren system, but more closely related to the ‘English System’. The concept of a National Land Information Service for the UK was initially proposed by Professor Dale at the AutoCarto Conference of 1988, in which he envisaged fast and easy access to a comprehensive record of all land and property.
