This chapter will be devoted primarily to the operation of the novus actus interveniens doctrine in the context of medical malpractice where a plaintiff’s injuries are exacerbated by subsequent medical treatment which he or she receives for those injuries. Other themes which will be examined include the operation of the doctrine in cases involving the unreasonable refusal to accept medical treatment, wrongful birth claims, and negligence by members of the legal profession.
