AftertheLikudvictoryintheIsraelielectionsofMay29,1996,therewas widespreadconcernaboutthefutureofthePalestine/Israelpeaceprocess. Cansuchaprocesssurviveatall,giventheevidentresolveofthe NetanyahuleadershiptoinsistonabetterbargainforIsraelasa preconditionforgoingforward?Andcangoingforwardinthisatmosphere everbereconciledwiththecorePalestinianclaimsofnational self-determination,essentiallysovereignrightsandstatusinrelationtoWest Bank,Gaza,and,eventually,Jerusalem?Thesequestionsareinevitableat thisstage.
