ABSTRACT
Islam and the United Nations were born out of competing concepts of universalism. Islam is a universalistic religion as it seeks to preach to the human race as a whole; the United Nations is a universalist organization as it has sought to represent the human race as a whole. Islam has envisaged a universalism of people, the ummah; the United Nations has envisaged the universalism of nation-states, the international community.
