ABSTRACT

Locating and using information and evidence is an essential skill in higher education (HE).

A dictionary definition of ‘information’ is ‘items of knowledge’ (Thompson, 1996). ‘Information’ usually refers to knowledge gathered from sources such as publications, organisations, the media and on-line. It may include facts, theories, policies or descriptions and may be written, visual or oral. Most HE and work tasks are based on information gathered.
