ABSTRACT

The global capitalist crisis of 2008-09, which continues to unfold in varying degrees across many regions of the world economy as of mid-2014, has had (and continues to have) a devastating effect on millions of working people around the world, while a small minority of wealthy capitalists have profited from the downfall of their economies, bringing to bear their monopoly power over the means of production and destruction through speculative financial misdeeds and military misadventures that have bankrupted their rivals (corporations and countries alike) in their imperial overreach to dominate and pillage the world. They have done this under the cloak of neoliberalism and neoliberal economic policies that promote privatization, “free trade,” and foreign investment that have led to the outsourcing of production and jobs-policies that states controlled by capital have championed as a the solution to all their economic problems.
