ABSTRACT
The implications of what is variously called “population ageing” or “societal ageing” – in order to distinguish it from the ageing of persons and their bodies – have become one of the key topics of research and public debate. In the present chapter I focus on an issue in this context that has received little attention so far: what major conflicts are likely to emerge in ageing societies, and thus, what basic cleavages we may expect.1
