ABSTRACT

In their contribution, Herbert Obinger, Professor of Comparative Public and Social Policy and Director of the Center for Social Policy Research at the University of Bremen, and Klaus Petersen, Professor at the Centre for Welfare State Research and the Department of History at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, address an old and highly contested, but conspicuously under-researched topic, namely the relationship between mass warfare and the welfare state.
