ABSTRACT

According to the theory of Will Schutz, there are three dimensions which help us to understand human interaction. One of the dimensions in Schutz's model is that of openness, and it is in this phase that the crucial ties of trust and affection are formed. Openness needs careful handling and trust needs to be earned. It might be worth thinking back to a time when we were last in a team and remember what happened when someone asked a naive question, admitted to something that had gone wrong or proposed a new idea. For facilitators working with openness, the issue of relationship is core. A form of inappropriate behaviour from people with openness issues is to be over-personal. Facilitators working with openness need to remember that they can't make people like each other.
