ABSTRACT

In order to address the issue in which we have lost perspective or come unstuck, we need supervision or support from other people whose experience and insight we respect. This support may vary in form as follows: Group supervision, Formal one-to-one supervision, and Peer coaching. Group supervision involves us and other facilitators meeting up with a group supervisor. This form of facilitation parallels our own team or group and acts as a container for the helping relationship. Peer coaching involves meeting up at regular times with other facilitators to support our own work and those of colleagues. The key issue for people who want to support themselves in this way is to find ways to be open, to accept that feeling vulnerable is the reason for being in such a group and to avoid competitive or image-building agendas.
