ABSTRACT

In planning we need to be clear about the purpose of the group or meeting, how long it will last, who the audience is going to be and what their expectations are. Before planning the group, however, the facilitator must be fully appraised of the purpose of the meeting and why it is thought that a team or group solution is the best way to address the issue. As facilitator we need to be prepared to deal with this behaviour and maintain the contract that has been established and the group's focus. Importantly, we will also need to remember that this behaviour is a normal part of the group process. Structuring 'in the moment' can be any of these things but it comes from being sensitive, aware and watchful of the behaviour and feelings of individuals and the whole group.
